Honouring Late Loved Ones

Your wedding will be a milestone in your life, but it may be a day that not everyone you have once loved will be able to join. There may be friends and family who have departed from this earth have left an empty seat at your wedding, and in your heart. However, there are ways to commemorate them and have them be a part of your wedding.

Here are a few ways to remember loved ones at your wedding;

Light a Candle for Them

A simple yet effective gesture to honor those who have passed is to take a moment to light a candle. Light a candle at the beginning of the ceremony or reception and let it burn as the wedding goes on. Taking a simple moment to remember them will let them know how much they are loved even when they are not there.

Keep Them Close

Keeping them close to your heart during your day can be done in many ways. Use their favourite flowers as your bouquet, or table arrangements. Attach a piece of jewelry or photo to your bouget or boutonniere. You can cut a piece of fabric from a shirt of theirs and add it to your dress or to the lapel of a suit.

Signs and Readings

The celebrant of the wedding can read out a chosen reading of the deceased. It could be a quote from one of their favourite authors, poets, or even something they had written themselves. Another way to commemorate the lost love one is to put an "in loving memory" message in the wedding booklet. You can also set up a picture display celebrating those who have passed.

Give a Toast

The most powerful way to honor your late loved ones is to include them in speeches and toasts. Here you will be able to remind your guests of special moments you shared together and let them know how much you love and miss them.

Your wedding day is important and never easy to spend without someone that is dear to you. Adding a few or even one of these to your day will help you feel like that special person is with you.
